What data does MileGuard collect?
Lease and vehicle details you enter, such as your allowance, dates, and odometer readings. Location and motion data, but only if you enable automatic drive detection. Purchase information, which is processed by Apple. Anonymous usage analytics. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
Does my location leave my phone?
Your lease, vehicle, and trip data are processed on your device, and MileGuard does not run a server that receives your location. When a drive's start or end is named, the trip's endpoint coordinates are sent to Apple's geocoding service to look up a place name, and MileGuard never receives those coordinates.
Is there an account or sign-up?
No account, no sign-up, no email.
What analytics do you collect?
MileGuard uses Mixpanel in the app and Google Analytics on this website. In the app, events use a random, anonymous identifier generated on your device, not your name or email. Google Analytics on the website is a separate, cookie-based service and is covered in the privacy policy.
Do you track me across other apps?
No. MileGuard never tracks you across other apps.
Why does the app need motion and location permission?
Motion and location are what let MileGuard detect that you are driving and estimate the distance of the trip. Automatic drive detection is something you choose to turn on, and you can turn it off at any time.
What are my rights over my data, and how do I delete it?
You can turn off automatic tracking at any time, and Settings has an option to permanently erase everything MileGuard has stored on your device. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA. Full details are in the privacy policy.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your lease, vehicle, and trip data are processed on your device, not on a MileGuard server. There is no account, so there is no name or email tied to any of it. The one exception: when a drive's start or end is named, its endpoint coordinates are sent to Apple's geocoding service to look up a place name, and MileGuard never receives those coordinates. Location and motion data are only collected if you turn on automatic drive detection, and you can turn that off again at any time. In-app usage analytics are tied to an anonymous identifier, not to you. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is shared with the services listed in the privacy policy solely to make the app and website work, and you are always in control of what the app can access.
